Hand in Hand ~ Yad b’Yed Student Conference
A National University Student Conference
“A Pluralistic Approach to Peace in the Middle East”
October 24- 26, 2010
University of Miami Campus, Coral Gables, Florida
Hand in Hand ~ Yad b’Yed is a national conference providing a platform for dialogue, education, networking, and social action amongst university students interested in a pluralistic approach to interfaith relations and peace in the Middle East.
Organized and led by University of Miami students involved with the student group Jews and Muslims (JAM) and the Clinton Global Initiative University, Hand in Hand presents the tools required for university students to pursue change by means of non-violence and respect for all. Five arenas will be investigated: Poverty, Health, Environmental, Education, Conflict Resolution/Human Rights.
Mission Statement: Hand in Hand will provide university students with the connections and tools needed to build trust amongst religious and ethnic communities in order to establish social change by serving the central needs of the peoples involved in the Israeli- Palestinian conflict.
Stated Hand in Hand Conference Points of Interest:
1. Develop understanding, respect, and compassion among Christians, Jews, and Muslims.
2. Search for common ground amongst university students, with a focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
3. Establish a forum to produce constructive, non-violent objectives that possess the potential to affect communities, religious establishments, businesses, and organizations.
4. Create a sustainable network to facilitate in communication, exchange, and coexistence.
5. Strengthen the voices of a new generation combating ethnic stereotypes, Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism and unethical policies in the Middle East.
Hand in Hand does not aim to choose a political side, but rather educate students of the many voices that exist within Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities and provide the tools to utilize these voices for change in a globalized world. Through creativity and interactive experiences at the conference, university students will foster connections with the leading Israelis and Palestinians who promote change through nonviolence, and thus discover how to also instill those values and ethics within the American discourse about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This symbiotic relationship is crucial and demands awareness.

Jews and Muslims (JAM) is a University of Miami student organization that focuses on “bridging the divide” between Jews and Muslims on campus and within the Greater Miami community. Established in the spring semester of 2008 by University of Miami students Farah Dosani, Jehan Feroz, and Shoshana Gottesman, JAM continues to expand its programming to provide a positive foundation for Muslim-Jewish relations beyond the university campus. This is also within compliance of JAM’s acceptance to the Clinton Global Initiative University this year. All faiths are always welcome!
The University of Miami is an institution with a qualified 501(c)3 not-for-profit status, which also extends to University of Miami student organization Jews and Muslims (JAM).

Welcome to the Hand in Hand ~ Yad b’Yed Conference web site!
Hand in Hand ~ Yad b’Yed Conference will occur this October 24-26, 2010 at the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables, Florida.
Current events in the Middle East generate a ripple effect of emotions, motives, and actions throughout communities in America. Whether transmitted through the media, religious and community leaders, leading academics, or personal family experiences, much is naturally lost in translation accumulating in polarized communities based upon religious and ethnic boundaries. The young student leaders of tomorrow possess a vital interest in challenging this status quo within communities to institute a pluralistic, open- minded society.
Student leader of tomorrow, better pack your hummus and pita because this is your conference! Feel free to get involved or ask questions. Please contact us @ handinhandconference@gmail.com .
